Mitar Subotić Suba is one of the most interesting musicians born and educated in Novi Sad, Serbia. As a producer and composer, he incorporated new sounds into the contemporary music of ex Yugoslavia and he also left a mark in Brazil, where he moved in 1990 and where sadly in 1999 his creative career tragically ended. The music he created was so ahead of its time that it is still completely comparable to contemporary musical trends.
The creativity of Mitar Subotić Suba cannot be defined by one type of poetics or genre and his works don’t only belong to one cultural space. That is why we are changing this interactive exhibition into a place of connectivity and intertwining of various art forms and the cultural centers Novi Sad – Paris – Sao Paulo. The project itself is set up in a way that it presents all the versatility of Suba’s music in intercultural dialogue and emphasizes his importance for the culture of Novi Sad, the region, and the production of the new music scene in Brazil.
Besides this multicultural dialogue that keeps going on through various forms of collaboration between Novi Sad and Sao Paulo with the promotion of Suba’s works, we want to emphasize the modern cultural questions through artistic formats that he used with recordings of urban spaces and music inspired by the sounds of birds. Besides the innovation, this form with its meta-language problematizes the most important questions in ecology.
The concept of the program is some sort of interactive installation of various formats in a space that will be used for various themes and ways of perception: through exhibitions, lectures, presentations of new releases, projections of video works, and course listening to music and music performances.new releases, projections of video works, and course listening to music and music performances.
XMobil: The Sound of a Falling Tree in a Silent Forest
WHEN: 6. July @ 19:00, Confluence - X Mobil stage 7. July @ 19:00, Confluence - X Mobil stage 8. July @ 19:00, Confluence - X Mobil stage 9. July @ 19:00, Confluence - X Mobil stage
Performed by: Simon Weckert and Vasyl Kuzmich
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? It certainly does make a sound, because it produces vibrations in the air. The anthropic principle said, “If there are no ears to hear, there will be no sound.” The observer (of how a tree falls) can, by their very existence, influence the observed reality. Therefore, it is very important to observe the world and ourselves; already, with our “pure” observation, we change the world and fill it with sound and color. Xmobil’s performance and presentation span from downright ambient music to edgy sound art, applying machine-learning-generated visuals mapped to sound frequencies. Xmobil aims to create an engaging and interactive environment, where the audience is invited to become part of the Mobile Planetarium. The performance is mostly created in real-time and/or improvised with hardware synthesizers, sequencers, and software. It also involves interaction with the audience through GPS detection of phones (phones are optional), GSM/3G/4G frequencies, wifi scanning, and spoofing. In addition, recorded or live sounds from self-powered microphones in various natural locations broadcast the sounds of what is “happening.” Remaining autonomous, yet on the move, with xMobil
You are invited to a journey that will not strain your body, or leave any carbon emissions. Together, we are going to travel to a place of which you will say „It’s like no place on earth!“. In the interactive performance No Travel Agency we will teleport to a place that you have visited many times, but have no memory of.
Welcome to a journey you have never imagined. Come and see a place like no one on earth. A place that can’t be found, but does not exist without you. An unknown place, but you have been there before. A place without creatures, but shaped by us.
No Mobility Travel Agency offers an evening of cyber teleportation. We will travel without any strain and without any carbon emissions. We would like to invite you to join us on an interactive journey. We will disappear from this place and reappear in another place. We will enter a place that only exists temporarily for us and yet does not exist without us. A world of new cultural narratives formed by us but also by you.
This interactive performance is an experiment in knowledge production about technology and the nature of location.
It will be a journey you will never forget. Be one of the first! Enjoy the adventure of your lifetime! Come and see the beauty like no one on earth. Feel invited to take part, but also feel free to let curiosity lead you. We are looking forward to facilitating and traveling with you.
And now, please follow the instructions of your travel agent. Thank you for choosing No Mobility Travel Agency.
An interactive cyber teleportation performance by Simon Weckert and Gloria Gammer.
