Quartzite is extremly compact granular and metamorphic rock – that’s how quartet named their music, the sound of this ensemble explores between boundaries of the classical-contemporary music, jazz and rock. The explosive energy is reflecting in their highly structured compositions leaving space for adventurous risk taking moments and no-holds-barred improvisation. Created their own music language.
The international quartet met while studying at Codarts, University of Arts, Rotterdam. They became friends – than lovers, than even something more and basically became a rock; QUARTZITE 4tet in 2016. The same year quartet already won the 2nd price at Erasmus Jazz Award 2016 + best soloist award in De Doelen Rotterdam(the very first performence). In just 2 years after the start, Quartzite 4tet already shared the stage like Tivoli Vredenburg, Lanteren Venster, De Doelen, Maas Theater, InJazz festival, other festival and venues in Europe. Rapidly growing quartet from Rotterdam had a debut CD called Recrystalliation released in March 2017 and it is preparing for new release in 2020.
