Rotterdam, a city where numerous cultures interweave, provided the members of Kukushai a place to meet and create. The expressive and primal voice was merged with piano sounds of many faces through drum strokes and vibrations of fine detail and wild nature.
The trio in its unconventional nature weaves the songs together and seeks new possibilities in expression within the fields of alternative, pop and jazz genres, but does not bypass musical nostalgia for novelty\u2019s sake.
Live the compositions enable open improvisation that gives way to various genres, which results in an impressive, rich and, above all, characteristic sound story. The lyrics are playful, often surrealistic, but predominantly expressing the bewilderment of a man in the world that he wants to control, but has no real grasp of. While they can\u2019t be labeled as either jazz, pop, punk, experimental or folk music, the influence of all these styles can still be found in their sound.
The new album – FRUITILE, released on 5.5.2017,<\/strong>– reflects the band\u2019s distinct blend of melodic elements within unusual harmonic and rhythmical textures, painting a finely detailed sonic image of rich colors and accented bold lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
