AUG.UNIS (Slo)

The AUG.UNIS project was spawned in 2020, when Elvis and Boštjan performed at the Spider dance festival in Tivoli park in Ljubljana and repeated the performance with dancer Beno Novak a year later. This year they provided the music for the silent film Haxan by Benjamin Christiansen from 1922 at the Kurja polt festival. They use half open forms for improvisation and interaction with electronic instruments. Elvis is using a modular synthesizer in connection with the sound of acoustic drums and a semi-modular drone synthesizer Lyra. Similarly, Boštjan is using a modular synth in connection with his saxophone sound and certain Moog effects. The sound synthesis is analogue, they don’t use presets, that is why their improvisations/compositions are sometimes fused in a flow of random frequency and occasional rhythmic pattern layering.

Boštjan Simon is a saxophone player and a electronic musician, who provided the Slovenian and European scene with the following projects in the last ten years: Vanilla Riot, Velkro, Litošt, Trus!, There Be Monsters and Etceteral. Simon has already appeared at Sajeta with some of these projects, but also in Brdonč trans quartet, Jazz Punt Big Band and his solo electronic project Appulso. He dabbles in the symbiosis between electronic and acoustic sound, the exploration of repetitive rhythmic patterns and the extreme sound capabilities of the saxophone.

Elvis Homan is a drummer who lives and works in Rotterdam. He is the founding member of the jazz quartet Quartzite, winners of the prestigious Erasmus Jazz Prize who have been successfully performing at European festivals. He is currently studying Live Electronics at the conservatory in Amsterdam, he’s is leading a concert cycle at the Worm in Rotterdam, in 2020 he formed the Rotterdam orchestra of electronic improvisators, REIO. He is focused on the Ableton Live software and the connection between acoustic drums and a system of modular synthesizers.
