Sajeta

The ninth edition of Sajeta is staying faithful to the concept of comining concerts, workshops and lectures. The workshops will be led by our old acquaintances: mentor to the musical collective Francesco Cusa, wood sculpturing Dušan Gerlica, teacher of vocal technique Anna Nacher, expert for cumputer-aided sound design Miha Tomšič", and for the kids, the brothers Kutin from the musical circus of Salamandra Salamandra.

The concerts will be a continuation of the stories told on past Sajetas, presenting the historical avantgarde and defining the future of music. The concerts this year will be as follows: the series Štefančič-Trobentar-Drobež from previous years will be augmented by the young fingerpicking guitarist Sašo Zver from Prekmurje. Following him with only a clarinet and a saxophone in his hands will be Louis Sclavis, who although being a classically trained musician has a keen ear for improvization and innovation. Moreover, this legend of French free-jazz will also be a »gift« from Sajeta to Zlatko Kaučič for the latter's 30th year of creating music, and also a continuation of the dialogs Zlatko Kaučič – Aleksander Balanescu / Trevor Watts / Akosh Szeleveny that took place on previous Sajetas.

The second night will be started off by Rashim, a female folktronica duet from Vienna, whose music ranges from experimenting with sound media to singing. Immediately after the Austrians will come Sajeta's »discovery of 2007«, the Slovenian analog-electronic duet Orton. Thereafter, last year's Roedelius concert will be continued by Moebiusom – both musicians are members of legendary krautrock bands Cluster and Harmonia. Wednesday will bring to the stage two musicians who each started innovating in their own respective fields already in the 70s: Bratko Bibič will appear as a soloist on the accordion, followed by the first Slovenian concert by composer and multi-instrumentalist Pierre Bastien alias Mecanoid with his choir of little robots.

This year's musical apex at Sajeta will be reached on Thursday, when Zlatko Kaučič will continue his extraordinary project Tolminski punt (The Tolmin Rebellion), symbolically taking place in Tolmin, this time accompanied by saxophonist Peter Broetzmann and Robert Vrčon, a singer from the Ljubljana Opera. The stage will then be taken over by controversial singer/songwriter Marko Brecelj.

The last two days will belong to younger musicians: appearing will be Slovenian vocalist and experimenter Ireni Tomažin and possibly the biggest Slovenian rock attraction at the moment Psycho-Path. The finale on Saturday will be dubby-dancy and hard as metal with the Viennese band Metalycée.

In addition to all this, the week will also include smaller concerts by musicians such as the Indian master Haradhan das Baul and local eccentrics Salamandra Salamandra featuring Ivan Volarič – Feo. An exhibition of krautrock vinyl covers will take place at the Ciril Kosmač Library in Tolmin, named after a piece by the band Neu! called Spitzenqualitaet. Lecturing on the contemporary musial and artistic scenes in the Balkans will be Zdenko Franjić from the Slušaj najglasnije! record label, Donatella Ruttar from Postaja Topolova, Relja Robić from Dis-patch in Belgrade and the »Bosnian psycho« Damir Avdić.
